The comics industry lost a luminary this weekend – Mike Wieringo passed away Sunday of a sudden heart attack. Details are still sketchy as of this time, but according to close sources, the acclaimed artist had chest pains at some point during the day and called 911, but the responders did not make it in time.

Wieringo was 44 years old. He was a vegetarian, and “one of the healthiest ones of us in the bunch,” as his longtime friend and collaborator Todd Dezago described him.

Wieringo worked every day, updating his blog and website with a constant stream of sketches at http://www.mikewieringo.com/. His last sketch was posted on Friday.

/when it comes to Spider-man comic art, sometimes his name pops into my mind first, during college we always critique his taking role in penciling some issues of Spider-man. and that time the comic art for Spidey is taking with the flow in the new and modern styles that attracts new reader and the design is kid friendly. Thats why I knew who Mike Wieringo.

as today, he joined with the force with other super heroes and artist in the comic universe.

Im a comics fan and we dont know each other, but this post will be a tribute for him and his involvement in the field of comics.

3rd Arts and Music Festival production note 1

3rd Arts and Music Festival production note 1

at last! i have made a production note dedicated for the 3rd Arts and Music Festival. The event will be next week and I invite you all to come and celebrate the life of the arts and the music.

Tomorrow will be the exhibitors briefing for all booth and sponsors, so today im doing some research and sending invitation to booth participants of Artists' Den and people of Glass House Graphics. Im making a schedule for a meeting to everyone after the briefing, I know that we discuss this online and haven't talk personally to fixed the booth and giveaway the ID's.

Ingress will be on Thursday, and right now Im not sure who will go early to decorate the booth.
I know everyone will participate.

I've invited some indie comic creators to sell and promote their comics and also our main goal is to promote our local comics at the festival, since no other comic entities are there to represent, Artists Den was chosen and today is the 2nd year of representing the arts in comics at the festival. I was hoping to invite more as we need to show outside the comic circle on where are we know in the field of comics and indie publishing.

here are some image covers of comics that will represent at the festival

also I invited Weewilldoodle, they will have a doodle space at the festival, so visit them and doodle it out! and some of their stuff will be sold at the booth too.

Art Department, a sculptor and movie props maker will join us too.

Backdoor Ventures sets 3rd Arts and Music Festival

Backdoor Ventures sets 3rd Arts and Music Festival

It will be yet another feast for the senses as Backdoor Ventures presents its ground-breaking roster of live performances and artists at the 3rd Backdoor Ventures Arts & Music Festival & Trade Fair at the Megatrade Hall 3 of SM Megamall from August 24 to 26.

The event is the only one of its kind that fuses arts and music in the context of a trade exposition catering to enthusiasts and promotes the diversity and artistry of Pinoy art and music.

With over a thousand participating artists in the past two years, the third edition of this event will set higher ground with its powerhouse lineup of live musical and dance performances from different genres, stage plays, art films, free workshops and art exhibits to give guests a complete art experience.

The festival will showcase art materials, musical instruments, audio-visual equipment and a wide array of art- and music-related products and services catering to artists, art students, art enthusiasts, gallery owners, hobbyists, musicians and music lovers.

The Backdoor Ventures Arts & Music Festival & Trade Fair is a one-stop shop for showcasing talent, creative expression, and product innovations which appeal to a broad audience because of the universal reach of music and the arts,” says project director Jay Viriña.

Hundreds of artists and musicians will take part in this year’s fest, which includes art groups such as the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP), the Saturday Group, Halili-Cruz School of Ballet, Printmakers Association of the Philippines, UP Artists Circle, Neonescas, Romancing Venus and Teatro Flamenco.

Participating bands are The Dawn, Pinikpikan, Kjwan, Kapatid, Stonefree, Kadangyan, Sinosikat, Agaw Agimat, Nityalila, Project Ganymede, Greyhoundz, Coffeereak Island, The Chongkeys, Bulol, Makatha, Dice & K9, Reklamo, Matilda, Brigada, Riot, Cosmic Love, Check, Alakpa, Sruvaleh, Indio-I, Niniskirt, Duster, Zip Code, Blue Sub, The Late Isabel, Syke, Gloc 9, Bahaghari, Stick Figgas, G2 & the Bundoks, Unitiima, Good Leaf, Lahi, Scarlet Tears, Purple Chickens, ERF, Ducks Entertainment, Mono Temple, FMD, Syalam, and Quadro.

Solo artists such as Joey Pepe Smith, Noel Cabangon, Sofia, Kooky Tuason, Miko Pepito, Julianne, and Wawi Navarroza, will also take part to make the event a “Woodstock” assemblage of sort.

The event is supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the AAP, MTV Philippines, GSM Blue, GSM Premium Gin, SM Record Bar, Argon Animation, 88DB, Pepsi, Pulp Magazine, NU 107, JAM 88.3, Wave, XFM, Adobo Magazine, and the Philippine Star.

“The fair is a family-oriented activity because there is something in store for guests of all ages and artistic preferences. We also have special activities for children to expose them to art and culture at an early age,” Viriña added.

Interested parties can call 407-1602, 0916-7814785 or e-mail backdoorventures@gmail.com or log on to www.backdoorvent.multiply.com.

MY NOTE : // we will be there, i have two booths to fill in, for my side we will be promoting comics art and artists, and also I was being assigned to managed the cosplay art fashion show. There's also a comic workshop on the 1st and 2nd day, I will post the info and schedule of the booths and the workshop.

If you want to be part of the Artists' Den booth at the 3rd Arts and Music Festival, just message me if you want to exhibit, sell your comic arts, do drawing and caricatures. Payment for booth rental is not required. This is for you and its FREE. The space is 2x2 meters.

for the cosplay art fashion show, for now Im still fixing the details, and it will be a free entrance to all 50 cosplayer who will register for the fashion show, this is not a contest, its an exhibition and show. The organizers include cosplaying in the event, because it is recognize as an art form and they want it to show and have an exhibition outside the anime and cosplay events and circle.

as for comics, I know theres a big issue about the Philippine Comics Industry, so there i invite you too, comic artists, indie comic creators and publisher to join us in the Artists Den booth. To promote and bring this awareness about our own industry and also our own. And also a big exposure to anyone who will participate.

Just mark down these dates for the 3rd Arts and Music Festival, SM Megatrade Hall 3, August 24-26, 2007. you may email me at azrael at gmail dot com. or message me in my cell at zero nine two seven five three four zero three zero nine

Lifesize Silver Surfer and TransFormers in MEGAMALL

Lifesize Silver Surfer and TransFormers in MEGAMALL

I was happy to see this live action figure and Im thinking of a way on how will I take it home and steal it hhahah joke!.

June 13 is the new date for the Fantastic Four 2 : Rise of the Silver Surfer, today people are still debating for the appearance of Galatus, they say that Galactus appearance is a form of a cosmic cloud, but there's a new image from the movie came out and its an image of planet Saturn with a shadow of Galatus' helmet. i just wish that it will be a real Galactus.

Here's a photo of us, showing how we are excited to the TransFormers movie. It is the 3rd standee as reported being sighted in theater lobbies.

fan artwork by Carlo Pagulayan

saw the season ender and thanks to got-heroes.com for providing and sharing the videos to us. they are the coolest Heroes fan club and forum in the world ahhhahahaa.

Finally, it ended in a good way, I thought that the season ender will not take place in episode 23,
Its a head to head battle between Peter and Sylar, funny thing is that Peter is not alone in the battle. Nice to see Hiro's development as a true hero, but he completes his mission and got lost during his last teleportation.

And the last part revealed who truly is the exploding man, its a big guess on some part of the other episode if its Sylar or Peter. I thought that Linderman will have a big part of the season ender, heheeh but its good to see his end on the start.

more on Peter's power revealing which is much more shocking. I was freaking out while watching the episode in my laptop when I saw he dreams about the past, which will make me watch the old episodes to check out some continuity.

oh well. we have to wait till September 24 for the season 2, and i guess I will be digging more of the graphic novels at NBC because they have a store there where the last eps. kicked off.

thanks to Heroes!

were ordinary people can really do extraordinary things.

Pirates Night Out.

Pirates Night Out.

The Black Pearl in Walt Disney Pictures\' Pirates of the Caribbean: At World\'s End - 2007

A night out of fun and laughter together with the Glass House Graphics people and artist. We stormed to Greenbelt 3 awhile ago to watch and discover the weirdness and fun of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean :At Worlds End. All i can say about the movie is they got a really good special CGI effects, and as in newsarama.com said, it simply blasted Spider-man effects as an
antique CGI effect.

sad to hear that, but if you think of all the effects they have in movie, you will be amazed on how cleanly executed the effects.
cre
Capt. Jack Sparrow leads them again into one ship battle, maybe it should be called the greatest ship pirate battle in movies, plus added with a malestorm (an ocean tornado, much creepier than tsunami)

and again...the final answer about the mystery of everything will be revealed here.

if you will watch it..dont get out of your set yet..coz theres a special epilogue after the entire end credits.

believe me, you need to watch that in order to move on hahah

Spider-man 3 REVIEW

Spider-man 3 REVIEW

A BRIEF RUNDOWN: Main titles begin, same flipping marvel logo, same brilliant Elfman theme (this time composed by Chris Young, but more on that later). No Alex Ross paintings, but there is some great CGI which focuses a lot on black webs, which is a hint at things to come, the composition of the titles is similar to that of the first movie, as opposed to the second. So at this point the film has just begun and already I feel like I’m visiting an old and treasured friend for the first time in 3 years.

I can’t really describe how ecstatic I was at this point. The first shot of the movie is footage from spider-man’s final swing in Spider-Man 2, at least I’m pretty sure it was, we here a voice over from Peter, more of the same, but this time he notes how things are finally going his way, and the camera zooms out and we see Peter and a group of kids watching the clip of Spidey swinging on a big screen suspended over the streets of New York.

The first 20 minutes is basically that, just the viewer watching Peter, and its so odd to see things going right for him, it’s a good feeling, but thankfully it doesn’t last. We are introduced to Sandman early on, and ironically he’s the biggest surprise in the movie, he is being played off as the typical thug who kills in the movies promotion but he is very similar to Doc Ock actually, he’s a family man who I believe is a good man at heart, and he has a great scene with Cliff Robertson, his character teaches Peter that the past is the past, and if he really is going to be a hero, he has to be able to forgive someone who has done a wrong, and that revenge will do nothing but make things more painful.

I got it here http://www.aintitcool.com/node/32293

and they say it is GOOD !!
wow! spider blood is flowing once again
I smell a Spider-man theme blog for the end of the month till the showing of May 1 wohooohh~!

'Spider-Man 3' Advances RP Opening Day to May 1, Three Days Ahead of U.S.

from : http://www.clickthecity.com/movies_article.asp?p=1591

Columbia Pictures' “Spider-Man 3” will swing to Philippine theaters on May 1, Labor Day -- three days earlier than the film’s May 4 opening in the U.S., this according to Victor R. Cabrera, general manager of Columbia Pictures Philippines.

This means Filipino moviegoers will be the first in the world (along with Japan and a few other Asian countries) to witness Spidey’s latest, exhilarating adventures. Considered as the motion picture event of 2007, “Spider-Man 3” will have the widest rollout in Philippine history, to be shown simultaneously across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Reuniting the original cast led by Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco, ”Spider-Man 3” is directed by Sam Raimi, who also helmed the first two blockbuster installments of the Marvel Comics superhero, “Spider-Man” and “Spider-Man 2.” To date, the "Spider-Man" series has surpassed $1.6 billion in worldwide box office receipts.

Joining the ensemble cast of the third installment are Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, Bryce Dallas Howard, James Cromwell and Theresa Russell.

A complex web of secrets, vengeance, love and forgiveness, “Spider-Man 3” is a riveting adventure that will transport worldwide audiences to thrilling new heights. In the film, Peter Parker (Maguire) has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. (Dunst) and his duties as a superhero. But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. As Spider-Man basks in the public's adulation for his accomplishments and he is pursued by Gwen Stacy (Howard), who rivals M.J. for his affections, Peter becomes overconfident and starts to neglect the people who care about him most. His newfound self-assuredness is jeopardized when he faces the battle of his life against two of the most feared villains ever (Church, Grace), whose unparalleled power and thirst for retribution threaten Peter and everyone he loves.

“Spider-Man 3” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

“This time, we’ll also launch an album of Aljur Abrenica as soon as possible,” says Ms. Galvante. “Also, we’re putting up their own show, ‘Boy Next Door’. Kris Bernal will be included in our new show, ‘Shaider,’ a live version of the hit popular anime. So, we’ll also make sure that they strike while the iron is hot.”

from : http://www.journal.com.ph/index.php?issue=2007-04-10&sec=3&aid=14564

// Damn! Shaider is a live action science fiction (tokusatsu) japanese tv series! and not came from a 2D animation series!!! arghhh!! I hope they could research more about Shaider.
After successfully riping off Sailormoon and Lupin anime versions, now they are targeting to Pulis Pangkalawakan Shaider. I wont be surprise on the CGI effects hehhehe.

Breaking News : Counter hits service in websites are being offered $$$ for spyware installation

StatCounter says NO!
Hi azrael coladilla,
A few months back, StatCounter was approached by an advertiser, offered lots of $$$,
and asked to include a spyware cookie on all of our member sites…we refused on the spot.
You install StatCounter to track visitors to your site NOT to open yourself and your visitors
up to being spied upon by phantom advertising corporations.
It appears, however, that other players in the world of webstats were happy to take up this offer…
We were shocked to discover just today that another well known stats provider is allowing up
to 9 cookies to be installed in the browser of every visitor that hits one of their member websites.
This means that the provider is making money by transmitting data on you and your visitors to a
third party advertiser. Not only that, but to add insult to injury, the cookies are causing the
member websites to load very slowly too.
In light of this, StatCounter wants to assure you that we track your visitors for you, only you and
not any one else.
Which provider would you prefer??
Do you have any comments for us? Please post them in our blog.
